CUSIP — Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures
A nine-character code identifying a US or Canadian security. The first six characters identify the issuer, so all of a company's securities share a stem — which makes CUSIPs useful for grouping instruments by issuer.

Questions
What is a CUSIP?
A nine-character code identifying a US or Canadian security. The first six characters identify the issuer, so all of a company's securities share a stem — which makes CUSIPs useful for grouping instruments by issuer.
Can I get a CUSIP from an ISIN?
For US and Canadian securities, yes: the CUSIP is positions 3 to 11 of the ISIN. That derivation is a fact about the format, not a redistribution of licensed data — which is why this site validates CUSIPs but does not publish a CUSIP dataset.
Is CUSIP data free?
No. CUSIP is a licensed identifier system; bulk redistribution requires an agreement. This is one of the reasons open alternatives such as FIGI exist.

Every financial fact needs four resolutions: who (LEI), what (ISIN/FIGI/CUSIP/SEDOL), where (MIC) and in what unit (ISO 4217). The Standards page shows how they fit together; Identifiers resolves them against our data. seed-0.6 · 2026-08-29.
