Why are there no vowels in a SEDOL?
Vowels are excluded so that generated codes cannot accidentally spell words, and to avoid confusion between similar-looking characters in manual entry.
Is SEDOL free to use?
No, SEDOL is licensed by LSEG. Finance Foundation validates SEDOL check digits but does not publish SEDOL data.
